EASTERN CONFERENCE Atlanta Stars: Booker, Ingram, D.Mitchell B-List: Nurkic, M.Robinson Solid Starter: Clarkson C-List: McConnell, Bjelica Fingers Crossed: C.Thomas, Strus ... Hawks should easily make the playoffs but seems like they only have 7-8 guys they can rely on. Boston Stars: A.Edwards B-List: Siakam, Time Lord, J.Isaac Solid Starter: Giddey, C-List: Okongwu, Toppin, Rui, Bazley Fingers Crossed: Bouknight, Kuminga ... So much youth. The odds of everyone gelling this season is low. Probably a year away unless OUDAN gets impatient and makes some deals. Brooklyn Studs: Embiid, SGA Solid Starter: T.Maxey C-List: Burks, Caruso, E.Payton, Okoro Fingers Crossed: Robinson-Earl, Fultz, Bagley ... Maxey might be on the path to at least the B-List. Probably not enough top talent but there's enough here to push for the playoffs. Charlotte B-List: Draymond, Kemba, RoCo, A.Wiggins Solid Starter: Boucher Fingers Crossed: Oladipo, Bol Bol ... Too good to tank but probably not enough to make the playoffs. Never where you want to be. Hopefully Boucher picks it back up. Chicago B-List: McCollum Solid Starters: H.Barnes, Montrezl, C-List: Osman, Camelo, Plumlee Fingers Crossed: B.Griffin, Neto ... Went thru a big rebuild a couple of seasons ago and looks destined to go through another soon. Cleveland Studs: Trae Stars: Westbrook, J.Green Solid Starters: J.Harris, P.Williams, Gallinari C-List: Batum, J.Hayes, Claxton Fingers Crossed: Wiseman, Thybulle, Okeke, Goga ... The Cavs are praying Wiseman & Okeke can get and stay healthy. That will be the difference between them being a Top 4 playoff seed vs Top. 8. Detroit Studs: LaMelo Stars: Ayton B-List: Mikal Bridges, D.Russell Solid Starters: Oubre, D.Rose, Poeltl C-List: McDemott, Kenrich Fingers Crossed: Kispert, Deni ... A young team that should only get better. Should be a lock for the playoffs. Indiana Stars: Vucevic, Jrue, J.Butler B-List: K.Lowry Solid Starters: Bane, Conley, Olynyk C-List: Bertans, Dort Fingers Crossed: B.Simmons, Q.Grimes ... This is obviously a playoff team even without Simmons. But with a motivated Simmons they are a contender. What about Desmond Bane though? Miami B-List: CP3 Solid Starters: S.Barnes, Drummond, G.Trent, T.Ross C-List: Gafford, K.Love, J.Holiday, J.Jackson, Whiteside Fingers Crossed: N.Hyland, M.McBride ... The Heat had an excellent offseason drafting Barnes and signing CP3 and Drummond. They might be deep enough to sneak into the playoffs. Milwaukee Studs: Dame, Durant, Jokic Stars: JJJ, LaVine Solid Starters: D.Melton, Seth Curry Fingers Crossed: Doumbaya, Culver ... Here's your team to beat in the East. The achilles here is the talent drops off a cliff after the Top 7 so injuries could be a factor. Need to be active on waive wire. New York Stars: VanVleet, MPJ, M.Turner B-List: J.Collins Solid Starters: Duarte, Reddish, LeVert, R.Gay, PJ Washington C-List: Korkmaz, Nance Fingers Crossed: DiVincenzo, J.Primo, S.Cooper ... Lacks the elite talent the Bucks have but makes up for it with being extremely deep. Gotta be stoked by early returns from Duarte. Orlando B-List: Lonzo C-List: Kennard, G.Williams, J.McGee, Looney, Brissett Fingers Crossed: C.Cunningham ... Put a lot into getting Cade. Hopefully he pays off. Still firmly in a rebuild. Might be best to flip Lonzo into some assets. Philadelphia Studs: P.George Stars: Zinger Solid Starters: THJ C-List: Monte Morris, Crowder, T.Thompson Fingers Crossed: D.Saric, J.Christopher, J.Sims ... There is a lot of functionality on this team but it's just not very sexy. Should be in the playoff hunt Toronto Studs: J.Tatum B-List: Brogdon, Herro Solid Starters: KPJ C-List: RJ Hampton, N.Little Fingers Crossed: T.Davis, A.Dosunmu ... The trade chips are here and a motivated owner could make a few deals to either have an amazing rebuild or a tough competitor. Washington Stars: Sexton, Bam B-List: Miles Bridges Solid Starters: K.Anderson C-List: P.Beverley, J.Hart, Forbes, Kleber Fingers Crossed: Kawhi, Klay ... This team has some good young players but they are going to need KKK (Kawhi, Klay, Kyle) assistance to get to the playoffs in order to lose to TMurphy.

WESTERN CONFERENCE
Dallas Stars: D.DeRozan B-List: D.Graham, E. Fournier Solid Starters: L.Walker, T.Mann C-List: Connaughton, D.Powell, K.Nunn, C.Martin Fingers Crossed: Z.Williams, J.Winslow, WCS ... Very guard heavy. Even in a weak Western Conference this probably doesn't see the playoffs. Maybe swap a G/F for a F/C and maybe that changes. Denver Studs: LeBron B:List: D.Garland, NAW, J.Allen Solid Starters: A.Gordon C-List: Danny Green, P.Millsap Fingers Crossed: Quickley, A.Nesmith, I.Roby ... Not a contender but definitely a playoff candidate. How much does LBJ play? Some ascending talents on the B-List. Golden State Studs: Giannis, A.Davis B-List: Dinwiddie, T.Haliburton Solid Starters: B.Lopez, LMA C-List: PJ Tucker Fingers Crossed: T.Jerome, A.Sengun, J.Wall, THT ... Not many can compete with Giannis & Brow as a 1-2 punch. Early on we see deficiencies with the roster as they only have 6 guys they can rely on. Perhaps Sengun makes 7. Unfortunately Wall is about as useful as the one Trump built. Houston Studs: Harden B-List: Hield Solid Starters: Bojan, D.Brooks, N.Powell C-List: C.Joseph, R.Hood, M.Wagner, A.Holiday Fingers Crossed: B.Clarke ... Doesn't look like Harden is going to bail out this team again this year. What happened to Brandon Clarke? LA Clippers Stars: Anunoby, Randle B-List: D.Murray Solid Starters: J.Suggs, W.Barton, WCJ C-List: Zubac, Theis, Favors, Vanderbilt, D.Wright, R.O'Neale ... Pretty good starting rotation but a pedestrian bench. Not much upside unless Suggs gets better. Probably a 6 seed type team. LA Lakers Studs: Steph Curry Stars: T.Harris, C.Wood B-List: D.White Solid Starters: J.Ingles, D.Schroder, D.Robinson, J.Tate C-List: D.Howard, C.Zeller Fingers Crossed: J.Nwora ... This team is in the upper echelon of the West. Plenty of solid depth to go along with the stars. Memphis Stars: J.Valanciunas B-List: J.Grant Solid Starters: F.Wagner, G.Allen, Lauri, P.Mills C-List: Cam Johnson, Lou Williams Fingers Crossed: Kyrie, Satoransky, H.Jones ... Obviously a ton hinges on Kyrie's status. He is the difference between playoffs vs afterthought. Minnesota Studs: KAT Stars: Zion B-List: R.Holmes Solid Starters: Rubio C-List: J.Lamb, Campazzo, T.Jones, R.Bullock Fingers Crossed: Huerter, X.Tillman, K.Lewis, T.Maledon, I.Jackson ... It's vital for the T-Wolves that Zion get healthy. This is a team with only a few top talents. They cannot afford to lose any of them. Like Memphis, one player probably makes the difference between playoffs or afterthought. New Orleans B-List: Kuzma?, Solid Starters: M.Smart, Bogdan, Capela, R.Jackson, E.Gordon C-List: Svi, J.Richardson, Monk, Shamet, Marcus Morris Fingers Crossed: L.Garza ... Below average starting talent. Will be a lottery team but there is enough talent here that they likely miss out on a high pick. Oklahoma City Stars: E.Mobley B-List: G.Hayward, T.Rozier Solid Starters: C.Anthony, D.Vassell, I.Stewart, A.Horford, E.Bledsoe C-List: K.Birch Fingers Crossed: P.Reed, Jared Butler, U.Garuba ... Gotta be pleased with what Mobley has shows so far. Horford looks refreshed after sitting so much last year. If Hayward/Rozier can get/stay healthy, then ya boy Petis may have turned this into a playoff team quicker than expected. Phoenix Studs: L.Doncic Stars: Gobert B-List: K.Johnson Solid Starters: J.Poole, KCP, Precious C-List: J.McDaniels, C.Payne, Iggy, D.Dedmon Fingers Crossed: M.Moody, Pokusevski, T.Ariza ... It would probably take a Luka injury to keep this team out of the playoffs. They somehow got better after trading Dame. Will be a tough out. Portland Stars: Ja Morant, D.Sabonis, K.Middleton B-List: S.Bey Solid Starters: J.Brunson, A.Simons? C-List: G.Dragic, Thad Young, D.House, DFS, D.Jordan Fingers Crossed: T.Bryant ... Ja looks like a man possessed this year and he could make the leap into the Studs level. This is a scary team in the West. If they can get anything out of Bryant, then that's just icing on the cake. Sacramento Stars: J.Brown, J.Murray Fingers Crossed: K.Hayes, T.Mann, J.McDaniels, Davion Mitchell ... We all know this team was set up for the future. Brown is really good and I moved him into the Stars category. Gunning for a Top 3 pick here. San Antonio Stars: B.Beal, D.Fox Solid Starters: Mo Bamba!, B.Brown C-List: M.Beasley, O.Porter, Naz Reid Fingers Crossed: T.Murphy, D.Sharpe ... It wouldn't be the Spurs without at least one really ugly contract on the roster. They probably don't have enough to make the playoffs but if the ascension of Mo Bamba is real, then maybe next year has potential. Utah Solid Starters: RJ Barrett, D.Hunter, S.Adams C-List: Ish Smith, Nerlens, B.Portis, Kieff Fingers Crossed: H.Diallo, R.Langford, Coby, TJ Warren, L.Bolmaro ... Another team with an eye toward next season. Has some useful young talent that will hopefully develop further over the course of this season. Hate to say it though I think a lot of them are at their ceiling already.

Time for another installment of "Trades That SHOULD Happen"
Dallas Trades: PG Jrue Holiday $19m, $19m (Paid down to $9m both yrs) Boston Trades: SG James Bouknight $3.7m PF Santi Aldama $0.8m, 0.8m 2023 BOS 1st 2023 BOS 2nd ... Celtics are gunning for it and none of the pieces they are trading fit that plan. Jrue sticks out like a sore thumb on that Dallas roster which needs a rebuild. This gives them a crack at a post-hype rookie in Bouknight and a late 1st next year. The other assets are thrown in for Mavs making the cap work. EDIT: Dallas signed Mike Conley for $9.0m (2024) so this one no longer would work. -------------------------- Golden State Trades: PF/C Anthony Davis $21.2m SG Max Christie $0.8m LA Lakers Trade: SF Jimmy Butler $16m, $16m 2023 CLE 1st ... This is a shoot for the moon play by the Lakers who need a big man. If AD can bounce back this year, then he will have a steal of an extension price. But of course there is the risk that he misses too many games. The Warriors are happy just to save a little coin this year to help flesh out their roster as they are already one of the favorites to win the West. ------------------------------------ More to come!

2022-23 Team Capsules
Atlanta Hawks Ownership Rating: 10 (Still winningest team in the league. Added another 2nd Rd appearance last year. 1x League Champ) Studs: D.Mitchell, D.Booker are Top 10 Players so far this year. Shockingly Jerami Grant is Top 15 and his acquisition likely saved the season. Brandon Ingram ranked 80th but Fantrax hates him. Prospects: Mark Williams tearing up the G-League. Cam Thomas is a bucket when he plays. Decisions: Grant, Ingram and Booker are all due extensions and only $37m in space next year. Gonna be tight! Good News: Nick Richards a Top 150 player out of nowhere. Keeping Mark Williams seat warm. Bad News: Mitchell Robinson might be at his ceiling. Outlook: Should extend playoff streak without much problem. Beyond that who knows. Probably needs to make a trade going into next season or will lose a stud with no compensation. |
