First Year Player Draft Rules - kylerap - 07-12-2020 The National Pastime draft will include any player signed from the preceding MLB draft or who was signed with international bonus money between July 2nd and the start of our draft. The draft will be 5 standard rounds and two compensatory rounds each year and will take place relative to the MLB draft and signing periods. During covid, the signing period  for international signings was moved to winter, so our draft would begin in early January. Regular draft picks can be traded. Compensatory picks cannot be. Draft order is reverse order of season finish (playoffs included).  Compensatory/Competitive Balance draft picks: There is no compensation for losing a free agent. The bottom 8 teams by record will be awarded competitive balance picks at the end of the first round in reverse order of standings.   The bottom 4 teams will receive a second competitive balance pick at the end of the 2nd round, in between the 2nd and 3rd round. Again, these picks cannot be traded and meant to assist with competitive balance in the league.
