Arizona Transactions - Seannyboi77 - 09-05-2021

Release:

TE Ryan Griffin NYJ ($3.6M,$3.6M) - $1M bonus each year

RE: Arizona Transactions - tomviolence - 09-06-2021

FYI you had him free this year from a cash exchange. That goes away if you release him, so this year would actually see your cap go up. Let me know if you still want to do this.

RE: Arizona Transactions - Seannyboi77 - 09-07-2021

Hmm.. where is this rule?

RE: Arizona Transactions - ProfitKing - 09-07-2021

You had money paid on his salary if you release him that money is gone

Interesting. As leagues lose owners every year, I've been following GIG a bit as I may want to join down the road. And as an owner in QFL, I wouldn't mind Laimbeer clarifying if I misunderstand our league trade rules as well.

If cash is traded, then it seems that the cash would be traded. Period. I never thought about a situation where a traded player is released, so then the cash is taken back from Seannyboi and given back to the team he traded with.

RE: Arizona Transactions - tomviolence - 09-07-2021

Yeah, in every league on this site cash is tied to contracts, not tradeable as cap space (like, you couldn't only trade cap for example). i don't think it's ever been written because that;s just the way it has been, but I will add it to the contract section. But yes, since it is tied to contracts, if that contract goes away, you don't just get bonus cap space.

RE: Arizona Transactions - tomviolence - 09-07-2021

This verbiage is what is closest in the current rules and does show it's tied to contracts: "- Cash can be exchanged on a contract as long as the cash is equal to or less than the contract of the player/players being traded." But again, I'll update this to be even more clear for future.

RE: Arizona Transactions - 4sFull - 09-07-2021

Weird. So it's as if the cash traded with the player never happened (well only for the team that sent the cash). The League office just sucked it up. Good to know for future trades.

Again, this is how every league on this site operates, regardless of sport. No one gets money for nothing, or their cash for free Wink

So, I just made two trades thinking that once the contract is traded I will have received full ownership of that contract. I still would pay a bonus to cut the player (like the rules state and were meant to be), but only because I have full ownership of the contract now.

Because it’s not in the rules anywhere, I feel like I should be able to reverse trades because BOTH PARTIES thought this was the rule. I had mentioned to both trade partners about the cap, and it would basically operate as “free cap” if I choose to release them and pay their bonuses. This was agreed upon by both parties each time thinking that this was an entire piece of the trade itself. This can be confirmed by both parties (IND/HOU).

We should not be punished for bad low bonus rules, especially if it isn’t anywhere in the rules to begin with. The bonus rules should just be addressed and valued up in the next offseason ultimately giving everyone time to catch up to the new rule.
