2022 Brainstorming - Ace - 05-19-2021

As mentioned in the group PM i think a contraction draft makes the most sense. It's impossible to set a structure before the end of the season but below is a very rough potential outline:

Round 1: 15th-13th
Round 2: 15th-11th (order = 15th, 12th, 14th, 11th, 13th)
Round 3: 15th-9th (9th and 10th pick before 11th and 12th)
Round 4: 15th-7th
Round 5: 15th-5th
Round 6: 15th-3rd
Round 7: 15th-2nd
Round 8: 15th-1st

Obviously every team also gets better by virtue of the Cardinals being disbanded.

Payout idea:

1st - $250
2nd - $162.50
3rd - $112.50
4th - $75
5th - $50

Biggest improver = $25

September Trophy

1st - $50
2nd - $25

Let me know if you have any thoughts or other suggestions.

Gonna miss the Red Birds in this league, but the tentative plans makes sense for the league going forward.

Thanks again Ace for all you’ve done running this league. I think the dispersal draft is a good idea, I just have a few thought/questions as we prepare for this (I’m sure you’ve already thought of most of these)

- I think the general set up of this draft order is good but a bit complicated. Maybe just start with the 4 teams that weren’t up for payouts then trickle down from there.
- Are we planning to hold this draft before the extension deadline? How the draft goes will likely affect which players we extend.
- Will players keep their current contract status (Betts: $27.0M, Devers: A2, Tatis: pc-2022)? Another idea for players past Arb is to set their contracts at extension values.
- On that note, will players whose contracts are expiring be included in the draft (Votto, Mahle, Kennedy)
- Are STL FYPD picks included in this draft for selection or will they just be erased from the draft order? I would personally like if we could select those draft picks in the dispersal draft.

Looking forward to keeping the league going!

The order is done. It isn't 'linear' but i don't see that as a problem; just pick when it's your turn (no trades allowed).

It makes sense to do the contraction draft first; extensions can be pushed back (MLB free agency will likely be delayed anyway due to CBA).

Current contract status.

Depends on if I think extension value has positive value; probably just Mahle.

Picks will be in the draft.

Looking forward to keeping the league going!

I'll get round to sending a group PM soon.
