Amateur Draft - Ace - 06-27-2020
To be held in the offseason on fantrax for players who were eligible for the previous year's MLB draft and signed with a team as well as international amateurs from that signing period (those subject to the MLB bonus pools).
Hence the 2024 draft will include players from the 2023 MLB draft as well as any international amateurs who sign between February 1st 2023 and January 31st 2024. Those players can therefore not be signed as free agents until after our draft has taken place. All drafted players will be placed on prospect contracts.
Future picks may be traded one year in advance, meaning 2025 draft picks can be moved when trading opens in January 2024.
The draft will be four rounds with the order being based on the standings from two seasons ago (reverse of finishing positions) rather than the recently concluded season. This means that the 2024 draft order will be based on the 2022 standings; hence all slots are known before they are able to traded. You can view the 2024 draft picks on fantrax and see the 2025 order via the sheet.
Non-playoff teams pick first, followed by those who exit in the first round etc. with the WS Champs picking 30th. If teams are tied based on record (winning %) then category points decides who picks first (least points picks earliest).
The pick clock will be 8 hours. There will be a 10 hour overnight pause where teams can still pick but the clock will remain frozen.
There will be one extra competitive balance round of 6 teams, to take place between Rounds 1 and 2 of the FYPD, starting in 2025
- Competitive balance picks will not be tradeable.
- Draft slots will be taken by the teams with the six worst records in the season immediately preceding the draft.
- The team with the worst record will pick first, through to the team with the sixth-worst record picking last.
- The usual tiebreakers will be applied in the case of two or more teams having equal records.
Teams may request to go on auto-draft and be awarded the best remaining player by draft signing bonus. If a team picks an ineligible player they will be notified and may re-pick. If a team times out and an ineligible player is picked then they will be placed on auto-draft after 5 selections have elapsed. Any ineligible picks not rectified within 48 hours of the draft finishing will see teams given the best remaining player by draft signing bonus if they have roster room, or else be forfeited.
