Trade: SAC & IND - fauxcreative - 12-23-2020

Sacramento trades:

Jrue Holiday (19.0 x4)
Enes Kanter (4.3 x2)

to Indiana in exchange for:

RD1-2021 (Utah)
RD1-2021 (Chicago)
PJ Dozier (0.4, 0.8, 0.8)
Dwayne Bacon (0.8, UFA)

Salary Coverage:

- Kings cover 18.6M on Jrue for 2021 (Jrue less Dozier salary)
- Kings cover 18.2M on Jrue for 2022 (Jrue less Dozier salary)
- Kings cover 4.3M on Kanter in 2022

-------------------------------------------------

For the Kings, I need to start somewhere, and getting a likely mid-possibly early lottery pick (UTA) and a pick that could be anywhere from 15-25 (CHI) depending on injuries/missed games for Jrue Holiday is a good start. I wanted at least one high pick, and there aren't too many win-now teams that hold such an asset, and were willing to eat the last two-years on Jrue's deal given that those years are 20% of the cap and he'll be 32+33 during that time.

The Kanter item clears enough cap in 2021 for me to buyout/accelerate Thad Young's awful terrible no good very bad contract off my books, which clears enough cap for the draft pick salaries from the two RD1's despite the major cash coverage on Jrue.

Obviously the cash commitment is major, but it's what you have to do with an 80M cap. I don't anticipate being a major player in FA next year anyway given who I project to be available, so as long as I can fit all my picks in salary-wise it doesn't matter.

Thanks for the smooth talks Pacers. Always a pleasure doing business with such a solid GM/negotiator.

RE: Trade: SAC & IND - TMurphy3 - 12-23-2020

Pacers confirm. Was leaning on holding onto my picks until more teams switch focus to next year and don’t love the last two years on Jrue’s deal, but Faux proposed a trade which helps me (hopefully) this year and next and will give me some to figure out the cap issues in 2023 & 24.

Thanks to the Kings for the straightforward & detailed trade ideas. Look forward to future discussions.

Nice deal fellows

RE: Trade: SAC & IND - Laimbeer40 - 12-24-2020

On Kanter, is that supposed to be cash exchanged in 2021 rather than 2022? The deal as posted would put IND over the cap this season.

I currently have it in the spreadsheet with the cap paid in 2021 instead. Let me know.

RE: Trade: SAC & IND - TMurphy3 - 12-24-2020

Money paid should be 2022 (and $0 this year).

I believe I should have 400k in cap space after taking in Kanter and sending Bacon to Sac. I ran out of fingers, so let me know if my math is off and I can figure it out.

Thanks

Cash paid for 2022 only from Kings. I needed to clear the 2021 salary for buyouts.

I must have fat fingered something. The money is right. Trade processed.
