Change to Cap Hit For Releasing Players - Billy - 01-05-2024

Looking into a change to the rules for releasing players. It's too easy to get out from under a bad contract with the current release rules. I am proposing the below change:

$1m and under- Still a free drop

Anything over $1m would be subject to 75%/50%/25% (75% of salary the 1st season, 50% the 2nd season, and 25% for 3rd and further years). Buyouts would still be the same adding up the total penalty under the new rules and using 1 season to get them off the books.

I would also propose that we give any new owner a free release with no penalty hit to assist with bad cap management by a previous owner.

Let me know your thoughts

Concur

I've had boatloads of cap space for years. And the only reason I handed out the contract to Brock Purdy this offseason was because it was nearly net neutral to cut him after this season and walk away if it didn't work out.
