First Year Player Draft Rules - tomviolence - 12-06-2023 First Year Player Draft Rules The National Pastime draft will include any players signed from the preceding MLB draft or who signed with international bonus money between July 2 and the start of our draft. The draft will be five standard rounds and two compensatory rounds each year and will take place relative to the MLB draft and signing periods. Draft order will be reverse order of standings for non-playoff teams, and reverse order of finish for playoff teams (using standard tie-break rules). Compensatory/Competitive Balance draft picks: There is no compensation for losing a free agent. The bottom eight teams by record will be awarded competitive balance picks at the end of the first round in reverse order of standings. The bottom 4 teams will receive a second competitive balance pick at the end of the second round. Regular draft picks can be traded. Compensatory picks cannot be.
