IMPORTANT: 2020 Updates and Proposals - tomviolence - 09-04-2020

Hello everyone - I've put the following together based on what the baseball leagues did to help us be prepared if covid alters the length of the NFL season significantly. Simply put, if the real schedule remains unchanged, most of our rules and practices will remain unchanged too. The only exception is we will up IL spots to 10 this season, and give a 500K one-time credit for any players on rosters who are opting out of the season due to covid 19. Then we have outlined scenarios for everything from covid itself, to contracts, to payouts based on shortened season scenarios. Most of these scenarios would only enact if 50 percent or more of the season were to be cancelled, so keep that in mind too.

Schedule/Playoffs

As of right now, we will continue to play as if the season will be normal length. That means we'll create and plan the schedule and playoffs right now as normal. Should the season get shortened due to COVID-19 we will address potential solutions at that time, as too much is unknown to plan too far in advance.

Payouts
Again, if the season is not shortened, everything remains as is. If the season is shortened by at least 25 percent, then we will play for 50 percent of the pot and roll over the other 50 percent toward 2021 league dues. Our league fee is $50, so this means the pot, which is normally $1420 ($1500-$80 fantrax premium league fee), would be reduced to $670 ($750-$80 fantrax fee). This means $750 would roll over into next season if shortened at least 25 percent.

If unaltered, no change to payouts. If the season is shortened, payouts will reflect as such:

30 Teams x $25 entry = $750.00 pot (Minus $80 Fantrax Fee = $670 prize money)

$250– Super Bowl Winner
$100– Super Bowl Loser
$50- Third/Fourth Place (Conference Championship Losers)
$25– Fifth thru Eighth Place (Divisional Round Losers)
$15– Ninth thru Twelfth Place (1st Round Losers)
$10– Top Season Points Scored (only Non-Playoff Teams eligible, 1 in AFC and 1 in NFC)
$10- AFC/NFC Offensive Rookie of the Year (Fantrax #1 Offensive Rookie in each conference)
$10- AFC/NFC Defensive Rookie of the Year (Fantrax #1 Defensive Rookie in each conference)

If the season is shortened by more than 50 percent, then we will look at potentially updating this structure accordingly, which would mean more money rolled into next year and less in the current pot.

Important Dates
9/10/20 - Start of regular season
11/16/20 - Trade Deadline (The trade deadline will be Tuesday Morning 12:01 EST that completes week 10.)

Temporary Rule Changes

IL increased to 10 spots. If a player has opted out due to COVID-19, a $500K credit will apply to the affected team's cap. For covid cases in season we're going to treat them like normal injuries.

2021 Draft

If the season is unaffected, no changes to the draft. If the season is shortened by 50 percent or more, draft positions will be based on an average of 2019 and 2020 standings. If season is void then 2019 standings will be used. As somehow I forgot we are a startup and not a continuation of NFLC while thinking about this part, we will obviously strike it since this league has no 2019. Instead, if the season is void, we will use a randomized draft for 2021. If the season is not void, we will use 2020 standings.

Contracts

Extensions

If the season is shortened, 2020 values will be halved (minimums still apply). If unaltered, no changes here.

If at least 50% of season happens, 2018, 2019 and 2020 count for extensions.

Otherwise 2020 will be discarded and only 2018 and 2019 will be used.

Contracts

Deals will progress as normal.

If the season is shortened by 50 percent or more, teams will be given the option of adding 1 year to any veteran contract at halfway between their 2020 salary and the extension value (or at the 2020 salary if this is greater). It must be for at least the positional minimum and doesn't apply to deals signed after the season begins.

Example: $10m salary, $20m extension value = Option of adding year at $15m

For players in last year of team control this must be done by Week 10. Others can be done at the end of the season (or by Week 10 if you don't want the 2020 rank to count).

Releasing Players

If the season is shortened by 50 percent or more, free agents signed this year before the shutdown can be cut at the end of the season with the penalty for the 2020 salary reduced to 50% for both releases and buyouts. Cap savings can only be used to fund buyouts for this type of player.

Covid

If a player opts out of the season then teams will receive a 500k cap credit. At the end of the year his contract may be tolled. For players who miss half the season or more for covid related reasons then teams will also have the option of tolling the contract.

Void Season

If less than 33 percent completed.

2018 and 2019 values used for extensions.

Contracts toll but teams will have the ability to override this and wipe 2020 from the books.

A void season therefore cancels the added year option.

Free agent deals signed this year before the shutdown can be erased without penalty (cap savings can't be used to fund buyouts).

New free agent deals can have future seasons cancelled without penalty.

We'll tackle more partial season scenarios if/when they arise at the time.

Made an update to the draft section. Thanks to branum to catching my brain fart.
