League Primer + Spreadsheet Guide - Ace - 10-23-2022

  • Baseball Tonight is a $50 15 team 6x6 roto league with payouts for the top 5 places. Roster Size is 32 MLB, 50 Minors and 6 IL.
  • Each team gets $125m to spend each season. The bulk of this will be in salaries for your veteran and arbitration players, with the rest going on players in their pre-arb years (500k) as well as signing bonuses for prospects and penalties for releasing players.
  • Players are acquired through the draft, free agency and trades with FA consisting of slow auction bidding threads. Players can be retained at the end of their contracts via extensions (salary is based on highest ranks from recent seasons)with discounts available for those on prospect deals.
  • Obviously in a dynasty league player value is tied to their age as well as their ability. The addition of contracts adds an extra layer where a decent player on a cheap deal can be a better asset than a more talented player who will take up more of your cap.
  • With regard to the spreadsheet, column E (PC year)indicates whether the player is on a prospect deal. A notation of n/a means that they haven't passed our rookie limits before the start of the season, whereas 2025 for example indicates that season will be the last scheduled year at 500k (you get 3 seasons after the one in which the rookie limits of 50 IP/150 AB are exceeded). These players can also be released without penalties.
  • Arbitration is set at $2m, $4m and $6m respectively for the first 3 seasons after a player's last year at 500k (arb salaries are halved for RP). In the PC year column A3 for example would indicate a player was in his third and final year of arbitration. Players on prospect contracts that had exceeded the rookie limits at the end of the covid shortened season in 2020 were awarded a 4th arbitration season (denoted in column N).
  • "Cash paid" in column M shows when another team has covered part of a contract in a trade (scroll down for to row 121 and below for full details). Hence if you trade a $10m player who has $8m currently being paid you will only gain $2m in cap space after the deal.
