WAS/DET Trade - pricker98 - 12-11-2020

Detroit trades:
Kevin Porter Jr - 2.2 2.3 3.6 RFA
2021 2nd

Washington trades:
Kelly Oubre - 17m (2024)
5m paid on the contract each year

Detroit accepts. Big believer in KPJ’s potential but probably not the best idea to have 3 Cavs on the roster heading into the year. Have plenty other young players on the squad so will take on Oubre to help more in the coming years.

Thanks Washington.

Wiz agree. I like KPJ long term and I need to keep piling up assets. Years away from competing.

RE: WAS/DET Trade - Goldie - 12-12-2020

I guess I don't understand this at all. A bench guard with major legal troubles getting paid the equivalent of 9-10 million a year for 3 years (once the money being kept to acquire him is accounted for) in exchange for 4 years of an established player who the market just set at worth $60+ million and is a key part of his team.

Will leave this one out there for more votes.

Approve

RE: WAS/DET Trade - Slou - 12-12-2020

Wasn’t Oubre just the main piece in a Beal trade? I don’t agree with Goldie often (that isn’t a shot at him just usually different opinions) but I kind of see his point.

Veto

RE: WAS/DET Trade - pricker98 - 12-12-2020

I’m not going to get in a pissing match on this one but I would be disappointed if this trade gets vetoed. 3 months ago no one would have said anything about this same trade. Today the Oubre side likely wins. 6 months from now who knows. It could flip the other way. Washington clearly believes that Porter will be the better player when his team is ready to compete. And these are the trades we all make when we have that belief.

This is all I am going on the matter and will live with whatever decision that Laim makes.

For the record I won’t be making the decision on this one but I am going to allow more people to chime in. I have seen griping but no official vetoes from anyone. But no this wasn’t a slam dunk deal that I was going to process immediately.

WAS turned Beal into KPJ, likely 2 late 1sts and a 2nd. That part isn’t horrible to me but not super comfortable with the cash exchanged

RE: WAS/DET Trade - TMurphy3 - 12-12-2020

I like both owners and hate vetos but this feels like a veto.

Oubre just turned 25 and his average finish the last 2 years is 44th overall. Getting him paid down to a significant discount vs market/extension value for 4 years should catch more of a return than a mid 2nd and a mid tiered prospect.

Sorry to be the bad guy and not trying to burn any bridges it’s just not a good trade IMO; maybe I am in the minority.

RE: WAS/DET Trade - Goldie - 12-12-2020

I'll call a veto on it, there's nothing redeemable about this trade in my eyes.
